Green Tips

Green Fests

I Can Recycle That?

Gear

Can green gear be affordable? And the answer is a definite YES! Do you have to search a little bit and do your homework? Also, yes. BUT, don’t you have to do that with most everything that is worthwhile in life? AND, we are here to make it easier for you...

SO, let’s do a few comparisons:

These stainless steel water bottles are available from kleenkanteen.com at $16.45 each. Fill it up for free at a festival or a campsite and you will recoup your cost in a very short time. Why? Because single (PLASTIC) water bottles are sold at venues for approximately $2.00 each. (Or more.) Eight purchases later, and you’re ahead! Even if you bought your own cases of water bottles on sale at the grocery store, in a matter of “4 cases” time, again you’re ahead. AND think of what you’re doing for the environment.

Here is the eco-friendly umbrella available from celerystreet.com. It costs $17.50 and is made from recycled plastic. I looked online and found prices anywhere from $18.00 to $29.00 for standard umbrellas. Not only comparable but actually less than many other options! OK, so they don’t have pretty designs on them, but they are eco-friendly and affordable!

And finally the eco-sensitive waistpack available at REI for $29.50. I found comparable packs ranging from $35.00 to $75.00. I don’t think they can claim that they keep 9 16 oz. bottles out of landfills!

Are things always going to be less expensive? No, but we can find eco-friendly and eco-sound prices if we try. We think we need to try.
